Every 2 yrs, RMHC Global hosts the RMHC International Conference.  Representatives from over 360 RMHC chapters world-wide are invited to Chicago to learn and share best practices in areas of operations, development, leadership and other important areas that affect RMHC as a system.

This year’s conference took place last week (August 19 – 23) and it was a great experience as always.  It’s always fun to connect with other chapters and find out what they are doing to be successful as well as share what we are doing in Austin to further the mission of RMHC.  I had the privilege of being asked to present at this year’s conference and talk about our successful Ronald McDonald Family Room programs.  I was of course happy to tell other chapters what we do here in Austin to not only provide a space inside hospitals for families to rest, but how we transform those space into a valuable program that provides much more than just a “place to rest”.

We were also pleasantly surprised to win an award, championing our chapter’s First Fridays program that encourages our local community to visit their local McDonald’s on the First Friday of each month to donate their change.  This program has helped grow our already fantastic relationship with our local McDonald’s owners and operators and has increased the employees enthusiasm about promoting the donation boxes where customers can donate spare change.

It was a great experience and I have returned with an increased sense of appreciation for what RMHC does and how we help children and families every day.
