Ladies of Distinction

by Beverly Seffel

I recently visited the Ladies of Distinction at Del Valle Middle School.  These middle schoolers strive for excellence.  They are already on the right path: they stay after school to participate in this program and are required to give a weekly account of how they were a Lady during the week.

Last year they collected toys for our families before Christmas. This year they are raising money in their community to donate so that we can purchase wish list itemsfor the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.

Each girl received a certificate for her service to RMHC Austin.

Our discussion was on leadership but went beyond to include being true to yourself and keeping your moral values high.  I told them that their dedication to service in their community reminds me of the high standards I see from staff and volunteers in the day-to-day operations of our House and Family Rooms.  I shared with them my perspective, that God and our families come first in everything we do.

I found inspiration in these young women.
