151,000 Views and 1400 Families Later

by Jan Gunter

On Saturday we received a tremendous honor! Our video, “Meet the Digits”, won the DoGooder Nonprofit Video Awards in the Medium Organization category. Along with this honor comes a $2,500 grant, a customized Flip video camera, and the privilege of having our video featured on the YouTube home page for an entire day (last Saturday)! That YouTube part is sort of like having our video seen during the Super Bowl.

“Meet the Digits” produced by Shiny Object, is now on the world stage of YouTube!

This unique story created by local creative studio, Shiny Object, tells how we take care of families and has now been viewed by over 151,000 people in just three short days! This is amazing exposure.

When we found out “Meet the Digits” was a finalist, we worked hard to mobilize our supporters – like you – and it worked! We sent out an email, posted on Facebook and Twitter, wrote a blog post, posted on our website and encouraged people to vote and share. You did vote and you did share, and we did win!

In 2007 when I first came to work at the Ronald McDonald House, we served about 500 families at the old House. Just three short years later in 2010, in our larger House and with the opening of the first Ronald McDonald Family Room in Austin, we served over 1400 families.

Almost every day we hear words like this from one of these families:

“We don’t know what we would have done without you.”

We work hard on things like this video project, and we’re proud – oh so proud – of the honor. But the real winners are the families. Every day they come to us, and every day our doors are open. They know they can count on us. We’re here.

This week we won, and we won big! We won’t win all the awards, but we will keep showing up every day and giving it all we’ve got to keep this place going, to ensure that our doors never close.

Thanks for being a part of this great work with us!
